Planning a road trip

A road trip is the perfect way to explore a country on your own pace. It's my favorite way of traveling. You have the absolute freedom to see what you want, when you want. Even with this freedom, a good plan to guide is a must.

Here are 5 steps to plan your dream road trip;

Thera are many options and each option has there own advantages.

Your own car

This is how we travel. It's a fairly easy way, you pack everything what you need and drive away form your home to your adventure. Still there are some drawbacks. You heavly dependent on where you live and how many days you want driving on your vacation. Your car also need to be equipt to go to your destination. Our last trip we drove our old Renault Megane and we manage the hills of slovenië but it was not ideal. Also you need to keep mind of it would be a issue to put the extra miles on your car. If you lease or have an insurance that is based on the amount of milage of your car.

Rental car

Some destinations it takes to much time or is simple not possible to go with your own car. Therefor a rental car is the perfect solution. We didn't use this option because we want first to explore the country's close by.

Campervan

Personally never had to enjoy to travel with a campervan. But it seems to me the perfect vehicle to travel. You can build one or rent one. If you rent a campervan keep in mind the roads you want to drive and the wheater conditons. My dream destination is Iceland and over a couple of years we will go and rent a campervan. Because we will go in april we need to keep in mind to have heat in our van.

Plan your route

When you know which vehicle you probably decided on which country you want to visit. I read a lot of travelblogs and see a bunch of youtube to find inspiration. Also I still use the app 'Tripadvisor' to see what the must sees are. Finally keep in mind what the activities are that you want on your trip. Do you like to visit only cities or do you want to see nature. Do you love to snorkel, hike or do you want to try a bungeejump, you can google the best places and integrate in your travel plans. I use google maps and pin the different places that I want to see.
